POETRY

Fog

(My "Fog" poem is different from Carl Sandburg's, because I see fog in a different way. It doesn't come from the sea or a harbor, and, to me, it doesn't come on little cat feet.)

The fog comes shifting and sliding
Across the surface of my pond.
It's eerie and ghostly,
Then moves on.
But where does it go?
And who does it haunt?
Is it cat-like or wolf-like,
And for whom does it hunt?

Spring Brings Swings

Spring brings:
Swings,
Slides,
Rides outside;
Flowers,
Showers,
Hours
Of rains
On windowpanes.
Fog, frogs,
Logs in bogs,
Soggy dogs!

Spring brings:
Bees,
Peas,
Shady trees,
Gentle breeze,
Chickadees.
Bluejays,
Happy ways,
Holidays,
Time to gaze
On sunny days.

Fresh air
Everywhere;
Anywhere
Is somewhere.
There's no despair,
Not a care.
Spring is here,
Let's have a cheer!

When the Wind is Whooshing

When the wind is whooshing,
What do you hear?
I hear wolves wailing loud and clear.
When the wind is whooshing
What do you fear?
I fear of the safety
of my family so kind and dear.
When the wind is whooshing
I lie in bed,
Thinking of the emotions
going on in my head.
So next time you
hear the wind whooshing
I want you to think,
What do you feel?
What makes your skin peel?
What do you hear?
What makes you fear?
Hmmmmmm?!!!!

Rain-Light

Sunlight
Moonlight
Spotlight
Headlight

But my favorite is Rain-Light:
Gentle rain falling through Sunlight.

Daylight
Nightlight
Starlight
Bright-light

My favorite is Rain-Light:
Diamonds glittering in the Daylight.

The Field of Hope

Every day when I wake up and face the day with sadness bundled inside,
Some days I want to say "You win," instead of not giving up.
And when I get that feeling I go to my happy place, The Field of Hope.
This place gives me the power to not give up Hope and Faith.
It gives me the will to keep going, for my family and friends alike.
For when he returns I have won the battle and held together.
This battle will keep going, but I swear not to give up.
I will not give up, I will not break down.
I will pass my happy place on to anyone who fights the same battle.

My Mother

My mother helps me to be
The best that I can always be.
The books we read,
The things we see,
Are special to me
When we are "we."
My favorite times are "together times" - she and me!
Happy Mother's Day to My Mother!

Wonder Why

The wind in my hair,
The sweet taste of the autumn air
As I sit in the grass.
Thinking, wondering why
Why do the birds fly so high,
Or why the bees buzz in the sky.
As I sit in the rustling grass
I wonder wonder why.

STORIES

One Spring Day

One Spring day, the wind blew very hard. So I took my red and blue kite outside, climbed a tall hill, and let it fly high in the sky.

Suddenly, a big gusty wind whipped the kite string right out of my hands. Away sailed the kite. Away sailed the kite string.

I ran and ran, trying to catch hold of my kite again. I ran over the hill, down the other side, and up the other hill. But my kite was headed right toward a forest.

Soon, I lost sight of my kite. Maybe it got caught in the trees in the forest. Maybe it fell to the ground somewhere. I looked for my red and blue kite in the forest. I didn't see it there. I looked in the field on the other side of the forest. I didn't see it there.

Suddenly, something red and blue caught my eye. My kite! It was still sailing through the sky, across the fields and forests, far, far away. There was no way I could catch it. Maybe someone else will find my kite someday. Maybe you!

BOOK REVIEWS

Hoot by Carl Hiaasen

I like this book because it has lots of adventure, plus alligators, snakes, and owls. I liked the main characters, Roy and Mullet Fingers. I also liked the funny situations and silly tricks.

This book has an interesting plot, because of the way Mullet tries to protect the owls. The book is long, but if you like to read, I'd say it's worth reading for the fun and adventures.

Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

This is one of my favorite books. I've read it over and over. It's kind of a sad book, but it's also a very good book.

I know what it's like to move to a place where you don't know anyone, so I felt what Opal felt. I have a dog, too, and I know how a dog can understand how you feel. And how dogs can help you feel a lot better and happier.

Winn-Dixie is a dog that is very special, because he helps Opal make new friends and feel good about her new life. I think Because of Winn-Dixie will make you feel good, too.

CREATIVE PROJECTS

My Spaceship
By Harrison Faux

One day in November I made a Lego space ship. It is big and has five crew men in it. It is grey and black and has blue windows and a blue canopy. It has lots of lights and buttons in it. It has eight engines. It also has eight phase banks and four missiles. I keep it under the bed.
