Re: What are you learning this week? #2 By Valerie 4/6/2010 1:10:02 PM We've been using the "Movies as Unit Studies" -- from the "Unit Studies" page on this site. (We're excited to see the Gardening, Weather, and Easter unit studies on that page, too!) For our Movies Unit Study, we're combining Classic Movies with Classic Children's Literature. We watch the movie and we read the book. Books and movies we've enjoyed and learned from are Swiss Family Robinson, To Kill a Mockingbird, Black Beauty, White Fang, Prince and the Pauper, The Diary of Anne Frank, and many other great books and movies! The ideas from the "Movies as Unit Studies" helps me to plan extra learning activities for each book and movie. Valerie Re: What are you learning this week? #3 By Von 4/6/2010 2:24:02 PM Thanks for those titles Valerie! My son is working on Weather, Perimenters, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, and doing a book report on it. Also he has to do a current event due every Friday. I need info with Middle Age/Renaissance period that is interesting. Everything I searched for is too detailed and rather boring. PE is the only thing that I can't get him motivated to do. Von Re: What are you learning this week? #4 By Marcy 4/16/2010 6:37:13 PM We began studying Ireland - using the "Kids" version of National Geographic. From there, we clicked the "People & Places" link and ended up learning about the United Kingdom, China, Russia, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq... on and on! Also, by selecting "Related Stories," we learned about the oldest writing in the new world, plus deserts, cheetahs, and boa constrictors! It's been a fun week of learning! Re: What are you learning this week? #5 By Sherri 4/21/2010 6:09:41 AM We're creating safe, erupting volcanoes, as well as virtual volcanoes! Plus learning about recently discovered volcanic vents and "quizzing our noodles" about volcanoes! Click the "Free Activities" button, on the left, to take part, too!
